Midsommar 2021…

It has been a while since I last wrote.  I’ve been busy in the studio after a short hiatus (sometimes I just need some thinking time).  I’m currently working on a small series of hummingbird nests complete with my cut paper lichens. You can see a little of my progress here.

So far, it has been a summer filled with hiking, walking, and outdoor picnics. Pilot Mountain was our most recent new hike.  I loved the meadow of Brown-eyed Susans at the base of the mountain.

I had fun making this year’s Midsummer feast. I roasted salmon with lemon and dill (served with lettuce and fresh radishes), pickled beets with fennel, and made new potatoes with green herb sauce, and a fresh lime sparkling drink with lots of mint from the garden.  I also baked a sponge cake with homemade whipped cream and strawberries.  I enjoyed teaching a virtual Midsommar Paper Flower Crown class at The American Swedish Institute.

Garden-wise, I have been enjoying the abundance of fresh fruit, veggies, and herbs.  I made a big batch of plum jam with plums from our trees, pico de gallo with fresh cilantro, eggplant caviar with fresh mint, a white bean and tomato salad with fresh dill, sesame mint chips, and have been saving alpine strawberries and blueberries for a tart.

I am looking forward to lots more hiking and being outdoors as much as possible.
